The stock policy, in formulas

⏱ 7 min readUpdated on Source code: src/lib/politique-stock.ts · function computeStockPolicy — one calculation, two readers: the screen preview and the journal

For each financial year , Fiplan calculates a target stock under the chosen rule, holds it at or above the minimum, rounds it to the cent, then posts the change in stock (variation de stock / voorraadwijziging) to the journal at year-end.

Notation

the sum of purchases excl. VAT on the linked supply lines, over financial year
the sum of revenue excl. VAT on the linked revenue lines, over financial year
the number of months in financial year (the first may run from 1 to 24 months, the following ones 12)
the target value: a number of days of purchases, a percentage of revenue or a fixed amount
the minimum stock
the target stock for financial year
the closing stock retained, written to the journal
the change in stock for financial year
the purchases consumed in financial year

The target stock, by rule

A month counts 365/12 days: a 12-month financial year counts 365 days, an 18-month first financial year counts 547.5. This is a Fiplan projection convention, declared in the code, not a legal rule.

(4b): and are the total debits and the total credits of the stock account in the opening entries (écritures d'à-nouveau / openingsboekingen) — the prior-year (N-1) closing balance sheet taken over when the file was created. Rounding to the cent applies to the stock retained, which is the value written to the journal; the change is the difference between two values that are already rounded. No “initial stock” is made up for a company being incorporated.

A positive change is posted to the debit of the stock account and to the credit of the change account for its type; a negative change, the other way round. The change account follows the type of stock: purchased stocks (classes 30, 31, 34, 35) → accounts 609x; produced stocks (32, 33, 37) → accounts 71x. A change of less than one cent is not written.
