The thread of a plan: client, file, data entry, report

⏱ 4 min readUpdated on

In Fiplan, a financial plan is always built in the same order: a client, a file for that client, the entry of the assumptions module by module, then the report. Everything Fiplan shows — income statement, balance sheet, cash, PDF, Excel — is read from the same journal, produced from what you enter.

What it is for

This first article gives the map. Each step has its own detailed article; the common thread of the whole guide is Boulangerie Dupont SRL, a company to be incorporated, with a plan over three financial years (2027 to 2029).

Steps

  1. The client. In Clients, click New Client and give at least its name. See Creating a client.
  2. The file. From New Dossier, choose Company to be incorporated or Existing company, then the length of the plan. See Creating a file.
  3. Data entry. In the Encoding module, enter revenue, supplies, stock, remuneration, investments and financing. Each line is created with New.
  4. The checks. The checks badge, at the top of the file, counts the checks passed, to review, blocking and not verifiable. See Reading the checks badge.
  5. The results. The Taxation, Results and Analysis modules show the tax, the financial statements and the ratios, calculated from the journal.
  6. The report. The Report module produces the plan's PDF and Excel file. See Generating the plan PDF.

What is entered, where, and the first figure Fiplan derives from it (each amount is recalculated by the engine for each version of the guide):

Pitfalls

The type of file is chosen at the start. A company to be incorporated and an existing company do not start from the same point: the first has an opening balance sheet (the contributions), the second takes over its prior-year (N-1) closing balance sheet. The screen says so: the choice becomes final as soon as a line is entered.
Enter amounts excluding VAT. Line amounts are entered excl. VAT; the VAT rate is chosen in its own field, and Fiplan calculates the VAT for each month.
A wrong figure is corrected at its source. The financial statements cannot be edited: they are recalculated from the journal. To change a figure, you change the entered line that produced it.

What it changes

① Income statementThe income statement€216,000.00The example's 2027 revenue, the first line of the income statement, read from the journal.
② CashThe starting cash€20,000.00The cash contribution paid in at incorporation, into the bank account, on the first day of the plan.
③ Balance sheetThe opening balance sheet€20,000.00Assets = liabilities from the opening: the cash contributed on one side, the shareholders' contribution on the other.
